Chloe Moretz is the latest Hollywood starlet to dabble in the pink hair trend, joining a legion of trendsters including Lauren Conrad and Dakota Fanning. But Chloe put her own spin on the trend, opting for only a hint of colour on her underlayers.
If you’ve been dying to give the dip-dye thing a go (that’s us!) but consider yourself a colour commitment-phobe (us again!), following Chloe’s lead and only dying a small section of your ends is the way to go. Bonus points? You can hide it in a bun for school!
Top tip: ALWAYS get your hair professionally bleached at a salon. Even if you want to play around with the colours yourself, it’s best to get the tips bleached out by a pro first.
What you’ll need: gloves, brush, foil, dye, plastic cup.
Steps:
• Section out your hair; securing your upper layers to the top of your head with a clip.
• Split the underlayers into quarters and secure at the nape of your neck with elastics.
• Using your colour brush, mix the dye into a plastic cup and paint the dye onto your ends. Applying the colour too thickly will leave you with a solid finish so it’s better to feather in the colour gradually.
• Wrap foil (yes, you can steal the foil in your kitchen) around each section of dyed hair.
• Heat ends with a blow dryer, checking each section to make sure they are fully saturated as you go.
• Let hair cool for five minutes.
• Remove foils and rinse with cold water (a must to make the colour last longer) over the sink.
• Blow dry and… tah daaah!
Your colour might fade from the sun, the pool or the beach but we think a pastel version of the colour is equally as gorgeous! Opt for a colour care shampoo and conditioner if you want to keep it from fading.
