Did you know that body image is how you feel about the way you look? It’s actually NOT about what you look like.
Anyone can feel fantastic about themselves and in fact, we think you deserve to! Here are some great tips from The Butterfly Foundation to help you develop positive body image and self esteem.
- If you work on being a beautiful person on the inside, you will be a beautiful person on the outside. Always remember to be as kind and giving as you can.
- You only get one body. You will feel happier within yourself if you treat your body well by exercising moderately, eating nutritious goods and never going on dangerous diets.
- Focus on the aspects of yourself that you feel confident with.
- Everyone is beautiful in their own way. Support your girlfriends and other young people by never bullying, teasing or putting anyone down. And accept others for who they are.
- Take time to compliment other people as much as you can. Not only will you make them
feel wonderful — it will make you feel great too!
- Have fun! And don’t let looks rule your life.
- Try not to compare the way you look to anyone else, particularly if your comparisons are with glossy, digitally enhanced and airbrushed images of models and celebrities.
- Don’t feel as if you have to change for anyone, especially if you feel you need to do it to ‘fit in’ to a certain crowd. If they don’t like you for who you are — they are not worth hanging out with. The same goes for anyone you may have a crush on!
- If you feel down or worried about your appearance, please ask for help from a trusted
adult. Everyone deserves to feel happy and positive about themselves.
