Position: Fashion Editor
How did you score your job at DOLLY?
I actually started my magazine life at Dolly as the Fashion Assistant. I was here for one and a half years and then I moved to Cosmopolitan where I stayed for almost three years. When I heard there was a job going, I couldn’t help but email Tiffany and see if I could come for an interview. When she called me and told me I got it I was so happy I almost fell off my chair!
What does your job at DOLLY involve?
Researching new fashion trends and making them come to life on the pages. To make this happen I attend lots of showings, hold model castings, meet with hair stylists, makeup artists, photographers and do location scouting etc etc etc. There are just so many aspects of my job I could go on and on about it.
What do you love most about working at DOLLY?
There are too many things that I love, but the top three would be that no day is the same, the amazing people I get to work with and to see the finished product on the pages.
What’s the hardest part?
I am not a morning person at all and sometimes you have to start shooting at 4am to get the best light.
What advice do you have for anyone who wants to work at mags?
Do work experience first and see if you really like it and if it is what you thought it would be like. If you still enjoy it, I would enroll in a course that focuses on the field of the mag you want to work for. After that, try and score yourself an internship with the magazine you could actually see yourself working at one day. It is hard work and long hours, but if you really want it you will get there one day. Don’t give up!
