Step aside Zac Efron, there’s a new Disney dude in town, and it’s not just his name that’s charming! Meet the gorgeous Sterling Knight, the star of Disney Channel Original Movie Starstruck.
If he looks familiar, you might also recognise him from Sonny with a Chance, where he plays Chad alongside Demi Lovato.
Born in Texas to some clearly creative parents, 20-year-old Sterling’s middle name is Sandmann. Wanna bet he’s the only Sterling Sandmann Knight on earth? We would!
In his latest role Sterling plays Christopher Wilde, a mega-famous pop star of Justin Bieber proportions. But according to Sterling he’s not quite at that level of fame himself, although he did once experience fandemonium style hysteria, he told DOLLY.>/p>
“I was shopping and this girl introduced herself to me and I was like “oh hi, pleasure to meet you, I’m Sterling” and she said “Wait, Sterling Knight?”. And I was like “yes”, and she proceeded to scream while maintaining eye contact about a metre away from me. It startled me; I didn’t really know how to handle it and of course the mother comes running from the next aisle and I’m like “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I didn’t do anything, I promise!”
But Sterling insists he hasn’t always had such excited reactions from the opposite sex, even admitting he was “an awkward kid” at school. He remembers being so shy that his nerves got the better of him when asking out a girl he liked.
“I was in sixth grade and I tried to ask a girl out that was way out of my league. When I got the courage to talk to her, I just said “Will you go out with me?” She said “What?” And I just walked away because I was so embarrassed. Yeah, I was that kid, I was really shy.”
But once you get past his shy side, it turns out Sterling is super romantic, and a bit of a softie too – he openly told DOLLY his fave movie is romantic cult classic The Notebook, and it once gave him the idea for a cute date night.
“I was dating this girl, and I called her up to take her out to a movie. But I started driving the opposite direction of the movie theatre and drove out to the middle of nowhere. She was like “Where are we going” and I was like “Don’t worry about it!”
“I pulled off onto this old dirt road and set up a blanket on my car and a little portable DVD player and we watched The Notebook under the stars.”
Sterling really is a Knight in shining armour, huh?
As charming as he is though, Sterling says there’s never been romance between he and Sonny With A Chance co-star Demi Lovato.
The charming fellow he is, Sterling can’t say enough lovely things about “amazingly talented” Demi.
“She’s a phenomenal singer and a surprisingly good actress. She’s a really genuine down to earth girl, which always makes things easier when dealing with someone as famous as she is” Sterling said.
He even gave his blessing for her relationship with Joe Jonas, saying they “really are a cute couple”. How sweet!
After singing Sterling’s praises, we’re sorry to say Mr Knight says he’s just got no time for a girlfriend right now.
“(It) gets tricky with girls who don’t really understand how busy I am and how little energy I may have at the end of the day. I’m not always up for dinner and a movie like I would ordinarily be, after fourteen hours at work.”
Such a shame! But the good news is we’ll be seeing plenty more Sterling in the near future.
