Miley Cyrus: 'I shouldn't have to apologise for who I am'

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Opening up in an exclusive with V magazine, Miley Cyrus has revealed that she is tired of apologising for herself.

The 18-year-old starlet admitted that she wishes people would move on from seeing her as a "perfect Disney star" and accept her for who she really is.

"People see me as this perfect Disney star," Miley told the magazine. "The moment I put out a record that says, 'I'm not 11 years old anymore,' people look down on me."

Gallery: Hollywood good girls gone bad.

With her raunchy outfits and on-stage antics, it's hard not to agree that Miley's been doing her best to shed her good girl image.

"I'm sick of feeling as if I owe someone an apology for being who I am."

What do you think about Miley's latest comments?

Do you think she's a good role model?

I agree with Miley. She's an adult now therefore she acts like an adult. And role model? To some yes to others no. If you were to see her as a young female performer with talent to share I'd say she's not the most amazing role model. However in saying that, shes out to prove that you don't have to fit into the world's perfect little box to be perfect, so I'd say she's a great role model for the young and old.
I disagree with the views so far. She has barely turned 18 before deciding she wants to go down a seemingly disappointing path. I am not saying she should be perfect or an ideal role model because she has proven more than once and before she was 18 that she wasn't going to be. If she wants to do things that will get fingers pointing she should be ready to accept the back lash that comes with it. She made her fame through Disney (children's production) and as result she should be willing to endure the criticism that come from not being the ideal post-Disney star. If she is even a little grateful to her young fans I think she would've thought twice before having a massive sad about 'being who she is' because a lot of her fans are too young to understand she couldve made better choices I think. But just my opinion anyway.
Who really cares! there are plenty of ppl that are judged for who they are, and how they express themselves. Your an 18yo gorgeous pop star! is your life really that bad?? ask yourself that! What about all the homosexuals who are expected by others not to be who they are, and they get bashed for being who they are you get you pic in a magazine! hard to compare the 2 dont you think! People are always expected to conform to society's expectations, and individuals will always challenge this! F those who hate you, you dont live to please them, you live to please yourself!
I did enjoy watching Hannah Montana & admit I wasn't an excitable teenage fan, I am 51 now. I watched it because it was good light entertainment & an escape from the daily world news mainly bad or depressing. How can anyone expect this talented young lady, Miley to be a forever teenage Disney Princess is ridiculous. She is a woman now & has many more doors open to her & it is her right as a person to explore & expand on her already had earned achievements. You do as you will Miley ... Gurl Power.
If she's sick of being related to Disney then she should go away for a few years and then do a come back, she's trying to shed her "good girl" image and replace it with a wannabe Britney Spears image. She's not a decent role model for anyone, she's more of a bad influence on tweens and teens alike.
Miley Cyrus, 18 year old. That short statement says that she is 18 years old right? Well she has just come into adulthood and therefore is still trying to find herself in each and eveyway. She hasn't been Hannah Montana in a while now and the world needs to realise the difference between both of them. One is a fictional character to begin with. Miley is finding her self and her way in life and people need to let her do that. Honestly I think she is doing really well. She is amazing to so many people, even with the change. She knows that she has changed and about 50% of her fans think that its bad. Maybe they should look into there own past and remember when they were trying to find themselves! Miley is a great roll model and she always will be. STOP judging her, shes a great person with a great heart. Give her space to choose herself in life, and to live the life she wants, and don't think bad thoughts of either way she chooeses.
I think Miley is right, she shouldn't have to apologise for being herself. The only thing i don't agree with, is the disgusting outfits she wears on stage...
I believe that Miley should be able to do as she wishes. I don't always agree with the things she does, but seriously she is just like everyone else - just in the public eye. If parents or others don't like the disney child stars growing up well they just have to get used to it. Like Miley's outfits on stage - Britney Spears is very similar and done worse things than Miley. I think she is a bigger person by standing her ground and saying no i'm not going to act like people want me too. I am going to be myself and don't care what others say or think about me. It takes alot of courage to have this attitude and take my hat off to her. Good on ya Miles
miley cyrus is a idol, hannah montana was just a entrance to her fame even though i love that show people shouldnt judge how she is, i love her song cant be tamed i thinks its awesome and i lvoe how she is being herself and not letting people judge for who she is. she will always be my idol and always be a person i look up to no matter what gossip is let out, true or not true.
I think people should really stop telling Miley who she should be, God made her, just the way she is, and she isn't going to change, unless she wants to, for the good. I really admire Miley for standing up and saying that she isn't going to apologise anymore. It must have taken a lot of courage.
