Big scars

I have really big scars on my knees from when I was younger, and they’re really embarrassing. Is there any way that I can get rid of them without having any type of surgery?
Brittany

Scars are basically healed skin that contains greater amounts of fibrous tissue that helped "join" the broken skin back together. Because they are as tough as skin there is nothing you can put on them to make them go away. These days there are specialised techniques such as laser surgery that carefully remove scar tissue. These are expensive and depending on the part of the body involved the result isn't necessarily completely scar-less. As you continue to grow and get used to your new adult body, you'll probably find that the scars don't bother you as much. If they do when you’re fully grown, you can look into cosmetic surgery then.
